RnB Chords like Bruno Mars - One Simple Trick
Do you want to write sexy RnB chords? Then you’ve come to the right place! In this article I’ll show you how to build sensual RnB chords with one simple trick. In this article I’ll build further on the basic music theory I’ve covered in this article. So if you haven’t read that one yet, I suggest you do that first!
For this blog post/tutorial we’re gonna use the Sweet Case Electric Piano VST. A cool free plugin. (Get it here)
So in the first article preceding this one I’ve showed you how to build basic major and minor chords.
A quick refresh: If you want to make a major chord, you pick the root note, the note that’s three steps above that, and then the note that’s two notes above that note.
For the minor chord you do the opposite. You take the root note, then the note two notes above the root note, and then the third note above the second note.
You can make a RnB chord progression very easily out of a basic major or minor progression.
Just add a fourth note.
For a minor chord you add a note two steps above the third note.
For a major chord you can add a fourth note 3 steps above the last note.
That will look like this:
Major Seventh Chord
Minor Seventh Chord
That’s how easy it can be! Sound examples are featured in the video at the beginning of the article.
